Boldly Bookish Blog Tour and Giveaway: Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

Welcome to the Boldly Bookish blog tour! I am so excited to participate in the tour and support the wonderful authors whose books are being promoted. Today I get to share a top ten post by the lovely Brigid Kemmerer, author of Letters to the Lost! If you have not read this book, fix that immediately. Obtain a copy (via legal methods, of course) and start reading as soon as possible!

Brigid Kemmerer's Top Five Favorite Scenes from Letters to the Lost

1) When Juliet and Declan first meet in the school hallway
This was a fun scene to write, because the reader has already met Juliet and Declan, so we know how they feel about themselves. This is the first time we see them run into each other (literally), and it’s always exciting to see how characters are going to react when I put them together on the page.

2) When Declan asks Rev to play “wingman” at the Homecoming dance
If you’ve read any of my Elementals novels, you know I love brotherly relationships. Declan and his best friend Rev are no exception. Declan is the last person in the world who’d consider going to a dance—especially without a date—so when he asks Rev to go along with him to play wingman, it was a fun moment between the two of them.

3) When Juliet’s dad sends her a text message at the cemetery
I don’t want to give away a spoiler, but there’s a moment early on in the book when Juliet is visiting her mother’s grave, and her father sends her an upsetting text message. He didn’t intend for it to be upsetting, but it seriously was, and it’s the first crack in the wall of silent grief that was built up between Juliet and her father.

4) The scene on the side of the road
I can’t give too much away about this one (because again: spoilers), but there’s a scene on the side of the road that was one of my favorite moments to write. Walls come down, understanding begins to form, the first seed of a true relationship is planted. (And now that I’m writing that out so vaguely, I realize there are two scenes by the side of the road that would fit this description, and I’m glad. Because they’re both meaningful.)

5) When Declan realizes his best friend is going through something
There’s a scene in the book where Declan has really hit rock bottom, and he reaches out to his best friend, and as always, Rev is there for him. But Rev is going through something too, and it takes Declan a little while to realize it. It yanks Declan out of his own self-pity, and reminds him that he’s not the center of the universe.

Thank you, Brigid! I think #1 is my favorite. And the very last scene of the book. :D

About the Book:

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

Summary (from Goodreads):

Juliet Young always writes letters to her mother, a world-traveling photojournalist. Even after her mother's death, she leaves letters at her grave. It's the only way Juliet can cope.

Declan Murphy isn't the sort of guy you want to cross. In the midst of his court-ordered community service at the local cemetery, he's trying to escape the demons of his past.

When Declan reads a haunting letter left beside a grave, he can't resist writing back. Soon, he's opening up to a perfect stranger, and their connection is immediate. But neither Declan nor Juliet knows that they're not actually strangers. When life at school interferes with their secret life of letters, sparks will fly as Juliet and Declan discover truths that might tear them apart.
